Spring Fling Saturday

Imagine that you have a whole day of nothing but stitching in front of you.  That's how last Saturday was for me.  No cooking or cleaning, just stitching.  Well, that and looking stuff up on my Ipad.
First off, we had to finish our boxes.  The paint was dry and we had to scuff up the box with sandpaper so that it was a bit "distressed".  Then we took the boxes outside and sprayed them with polyurethane, just a light coating.  They had to dry for a little while.  Next we could glue the linen sewn to wool on the top of the box and the smaller piece inside the box.  I really like how mine turned out.

Linda made each of us a strawberry.  She hand sewed forty six (or so).  Wow, what a lot of work.  I really like it too.
Then we finally saw our project for today.  It is a small sampler.  I was worried that I wouldn't like it but I was delighted to find it is very nice.
It is cuter in person than this picture.  It is on 32 count overdyed linen.  The alphabet is over one and there a few specialty stitches.  It is always fun to start something new.
It is also fun to see stuff other stitchers bring.  I loved Pat's Abigail Colby basket and accessories.  They are all stitched on 40 count.  I want to stitch several of them.  (There are better photos on Cathy's blog, With Needle and Thread).

Chris had a project she had stitched from some old out of print magazines.  It looks just like the class I'm taking in a week and a half from Barbara Jackson, Sweet Heart of Mine.  It is interesting to see how some designers recycle older designs.
It was also interesting to see what lights and magnifiers people brought.
Some people work like crazy on the design and get quite far along.  Some people don't feel comfortable stitching in such a group.  Some people were working on the pre-stitching for the box.  Some people, (like LuAnne) take pictures of each table.  I'm afraid she has some incriminating photos of me.
There is a sale at Stitchville just for us on Saturday night.  Since I've already been to Stitchville (and spent more than I should) I decide to stay and stitch.  It is fun to see what people have bought.  Stitchville sold out of the Abigail Colby basket designs after everybody saw Pat's gorgeous basket.
Saturday was a fun day to stitch and chat and eat.  It will all be over too soon!  It is nice to have the box project all done.
