Happy New Year

I can hardly believe it is 2014.  2013 was a banner year for me.  I am starting out this year less the weight of almost 5 gallons of milk to haul around with every step.  So I feel much better and lighter.  I have more to lose but I'm confident that I can - if I behave myself.  I see old photos of myself and am just appalled at what I looked like.  I'm hoping to get a good photo of myself this year to replace the one on this blog.
I was going to do a post with all the things I finished last year but I got bored by the time I got to June so forget that.  I think of last year, 2013, as the year of the mermaid.
So with the new year, I started the roof of Home Sweet Home.  I confess that I thought it would be easy.  Just satin stitches.  But it is a bit more challenging than I expected.  It calls for some thread I have never used before.

I love how the thread looks.  I has a great variation in color and is almost like yarn.  It also has a shiny thread running through it.

This thread is pretty thick for the linen so you have to be careful that you are going into the correct hole.  It is easy to get off one.  I speak from experience.

I finished the hard disc.  I think I like the back side of it best.  It feels a bit fragile but I will handle it with care as I don't want to have to do another one.

The little circles on the outside edge of the gold thread are a bit uneven but I guess that adds to its charm and shows that it was not machine made.  The design on the other side looks like it will be a bit easier.  You just couch down the gold thread with changing floss colors around and around  the circle.  We'll see how it goes.

I didn't stay up until midnight last night but I had some sparkling grape juice to celebrate.  It's snowing to beat the band this morning.  I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere.
I wish you a happy, healthy and fun new year!
