We're Number One

It was only one degree this morning when I got up.  But by the end of the week they are saying it will be 47!
Happy Valentine's Day!  This is what DH got me:

Aren't they stunning?  We went out to eat last week so that counts too.  I'm a lucky duck.

I saw in a newsletter (Create in Stitch?) a photo of at least a dozen Home Sweet Homes all stitched up.  A group in Texas had a SAL and they all finished theirs.  Wow, that's what I need.  BFF wanted to see mine.  I only have a little done (the easy parts).

Waxers

I collect waxers.  You know, the ones for coating your thread so that it goes through the linen easier.

I got some goodies in the mail yesterday.  I have been wanting a couple of waxers that have been out for a while.  Since I was ordering some thread, I thought I would finally get them. In my mind I pictured small waxers about the size of a quarter.  I was so surprised when they arrived.  They are way bigger than I imagined.

They are still cute and I will add them to my collection.

Then I happened to run across a couple of waxers that I thought were just beautiful.  They are a lovely light teal color with lots of definition.  I'm not sure what size these are but they are beautiful.  I ordered them yesterday.  (Gable House Goodes)

I collect cookie molds too and I bet I could make some very nice waxers if I had some nice beeswax.  I got these molds a couple years ago and think they would make very cool waxers.

It is terribly cold here but the snow has stopped.

It's Snowing Again

It is snowing again!  We had 9 inches the other day.  It wasn't so bad since it was the light fluffy kind of snow.  We are forecast to get a similar amount today.  I got my walking in at the Y this morning and so I can stay warm and cozy here at home.

I worked on the Quaker Bag.  I interfaced the needlefelt panel and sewed on the pocket and the needlefelt.
So that is done and in the pile of finished parts.

 I backstitched three more parts.

 One of them I finished last night.  It is the inside  front cover of the little notebook.

 I know, it looks just like the inside back cover for the notebook.  I am ready to start the accordion pocket.  It has just one large motif on each side.
I put in a couple birds on the birth announcement.

I found my original start on the trinket box side.  It would be great if I could use this on one of the sides.  It would only take a little more stitching and I could use it.

Back to the grind!

Uncle

I decided to give up on the weaving of white thread behind the writing on the front side of the trinket box. Needle weaving on 40 count linen was too hard.   Just forget it.  So I took out all that I put in and am calling it done!  That means I can stitch the other sides now.

I'm also wondering if I can use my original start for one of the sides.  Maybe.  If I can find it.

 I looked over the other pages of charts left to do.  What next?  Well I started the backstitch for the accordion pocket.  There is another panel with lots of stitching on it.  Luckily it isn't huge.  There sure is a lot of work required in this bag.  Putting it together is going to be the easy part.

Not Much

I don't have much to show for stitching.  I didn't quite meet my goal.  The needle felt panel needs one more corner put in.  Close but no cigar.

The pieces for the Quaker Bag are building up.  I put interfacing on the third panel yesterday.

We have lots of snow today.  It is the light fluffy kind.  I walked at the Y.
I went digging and found the trinket box sides.

 The reason that I put this aside was that I got bogged down with the weaving of the white in the background behind the lettering.  I tried using my special glasses and found that I could actually see the threads.  Maybe I can get back to this.  I would love to finish the trinket box.

I put gas in my car this morning and the cost was 1.35 a gallon.  I couldn't believe it!  Enjoy it while it lasts, I guess.

Of a Tuesday

That's the punchline to one of DH's old jokes.  What did he die of?  He died of a Tuesday.  It's the English sense of humor.
I walked outside this morning.  I won't be able to walk outside for the rest of the week as the weather is going downhill as we speak.  Snow and cold for the next few days.

Time to buckle down and finish up as much as possible on the Quaker Bag.  I want to finish the needle felt page today.

I think I'll sit down and draw out what I plan to do on the baby quilt back.  First I have to measure the front and see what size I'm aiming for.

I also need to have some respite from the Quaker Bag.  That will be either the birth announcement

or the sides of the trinket box.  Here is how the trinket box top turned out on my third try at pasting it on:

I know it doesn't look much different but I am happy with it this time and plan to leave it.

Danielle (no-reply), I loved every place I went on my tour of Scotland and England.  I loved Edinburgh and Glasgow and I think I could live there and be very happy.  I would dearly love to go back someday.  I'm hoping maybe Janet and I can go to the Bath summer school sometime.

Best Tour Ever

I am reminded that the tour I took last year, the Casket Tour of Scotland and England, was sooooo fabulous. Not only did I see an amazing number of 17th century caskets but now I am reaping the benefits.  The only reason I was able to paste stitching onto my casket was because I was on the tour.  I heard Tricia say "once paper is pasted on the back of the stitching, it handles like paper".  Then I heard Marie the bookbinder say "paste, not glue".  At breakfast one day Victoria Laine encouraged me to just do it and answered my questions.  She told me I needed to stretch my linen and apply the paper while it was stretched.  Thank you to Tricia, Marie and Victoria!   Now the top of my casket has Hampton Court on it.

There is much more to do. But now I know I can do it.
I also restretched the top to the trinket box.  I am ready to paste it again.

I started another part of the Quaker Bag.

It is the part that will have a needle felt on it.  I thought it looked easy so that's why I decided to work on it.  So far, so good.  It will have a pocket on it too.

The bathrooms are clean. I walked outside today.  I am tempted to make brownies but so far I've resisted.
